What is it?
A gentle leave-on lactic acid solution that starts to work immediately.

What does it do?
Hydrates the skin, lightens dark spots, exfoliates and reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

Why is it different?
With an optimal free acid value of 5.34% and complimentary pH of 3.8, NMF will restore radiance to all skin types without causing irritation. Enriched with Indian gooseberry extract and black tea, NMF delivers outstanding skin hydrating and brightening benefits.

The free acid value is the percentage of the acid which is actually absorbed into the skin, and it is agreed that a minimum of 4% (free acid value) is required for noticeable cell turnover. Furthermore, low pH formulations preserve the strength of lactic acid for optimal efficacy on the skin.

What is lactic acid?

A naturally occurring carboxylic acid found in many foods, Lactic Acid exfoliates the skin by removing dead skin cells on the surface and hydrates skin by enhancing its ability to moisturise itself. Hyperpigmentation fades and fine lines and wrinkles diminish. The visible benefits are smoother, softer skin and a radiant complexion.

What is Natural Moisturising Factor?

NMF stands for natural moisturising factors – elements that occur naturally in our skin and keep the outer layer hydrated and protected.
With age, the level of NMF in the skin decreases. So it’s important to add it into our skincare routine as we age.

What our customers say about it?

“Have been looking for a milder acid toner for a long time. Have been using this product for two weeks and can see a huge difference in my skin. It leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated – not like other toners which dry my skin out. I’m 56 and would recommend this product to all of my friends! ”

My skin feels fresh and bright

Bought this toner when I saw Caroline Hirons raving about it on her Instagram and it didn’t disappoint! I have sensitive skin and find that most acid toners break me out. This is definitely the best toner I’ve used. My skin feels fresh and bright. Great product for sensitive skin.

Love the packaging and pump

Was recommended this product by a friend as I was constantly complaining about fine lines. I hadn’t used a toner before and was pleasantly surprised. I’ve seen a huge difference in the appearance of my skin and have had a few compliments from others also! Love the packaging and pump. Thank you Pestle and Mortar!

FAQs

Can I use NMF while pregnant/breastfeeding?
Yes. It is safe to use NMF while pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are pregnant and have any concerns please consult your doctor.
A full list of ingredients can be found above and on the product packaging.

What are the main differences between lactic & glycolic acid?
Both glycolic acid and lactic acid are alpha hydroxy acids. Glycolic acid has a smaller molecular size and therefore penetrates the deeper layers of the skin.
Both acids break down the glue that holds dead skin cells together. Lactic acid has the added function of rebuilding the skin’s natural moisture levels and so it’s more hydrating.
Lactic acid is more suitable for sensitive skin because it functions at the upper dermal layers.

What is the actual percentage of lactic acid in the solution?
The percentage of lactic acid in NMF which is free to work directly on the skin is 5.34%.

I have dry/dehydrated skin. Will an acid toner dry out my skin?
New generation toners are not harsh and will not strip the skin. They are as hydrating as they are exfoliating.
If you have very dry skin, we would recommend that you try NMF, a lactic acid toner that is ultra-hydrating and a sensitive skin hero.
Lactic acid is even more hydrating than glycolic acid but delivers gentle exfoliation at the same time.
